Shadows with the Lonely

Pete and Maura Kennedy have been playing the folk singer songwriter circuit for quite a while. Recently they have been incorporating some of there own solo material into the sets leading to a residency at The Living Room in NYC in which they have been splitting the hour doing some pretty cool stuff. Pete doing things on all his various string instruments ranging from tweaking ukulele to a mind blowing electric sitar. And Maura doing some electric guitar rock leaning tunes. In week three of the residency she was joined by lap steel playing friend Rocky Roberts. Because he was there Maura decided to include her recorded but unreleased “Patsy Cline” song SHADOWS WITH THE LONELY. Holy Cow!!! Wow!!! and any other superlatives you can come up with belong describing this song . It stopped me in my tracks. It has CMA (Country Music Association) song of the year stamped all over it. I don’t follow the country music charts or artist that closely anymore the fact that there is no longer a country music station in the New York market does not help things so I cannot come up with a current female county name to suggest who the song might fit that is if Maura decides not to release it on her own. But I would suggest if you are a agent - producer or even a artist who is looking for a Nashville style hit look no further than Maura Kennedy at her Reverb Nation page http://www.reverbnation.com/maurakennedy
I know I will be watching the CMA awards in the not to distance future and when the envelope is opened and Shadows of the Lonely is read I’m just going to sit back smile and think “I heard that song when it was just another song in a set on a Wednesday night in New York. Then I can jump up punch my fist in the air and yell “You Go Girl”

The John McCain Speech

After spending a peaceful and delightful evening at the Mike Peters gig rehearsal I got home just in time to see Republican Presidential candidate John McCain deliver his party's acceptance speech. What a contrast from Democratic candidate Barack Obama speech last week. McCain said nothing about plans for the economy, bringing our troops home from Iraq He did thank President Bush for leading the county after the 9-11 attack but failed to explain how invading a country that had no part in that attack and having 5000+ of our forces killed has kept us safer. He did not fail to again remind us that he was a POW during the Vietnam War stating "I have the record and scars to prove it" It was a shame that he was a POW but he also needs to understand that alone is not a reason to be president

OK I really am trying to watch The Republican Convention Reall I Am. But I just don't see myself getting through it To start with I'm wondering why it's on C SPAN and not Comedy Central. Watching the Rebublicans talk about Family Values translates into Middle Age White Men that are against a woman's right to choose against equal rights for gay citizens against labor unions and young men and women that have been brainwashed by ultra right wing mega church pastors backing all these un-american policies.
Laura Bush last night said "When such events occur, we are reminded that, first, we are all Americans, and that our shared American ideals will always transcend political parties and partisanship," she said. "We hope that the people on the Gulf Coast know that the American people are here to do what we can to assist them." and that President Bush "has been speaking with the officials in the region to make sure they have what they need from the federal government." I would have liked her to add "He is doing so because he fucked up so bad 3 years ago during Hurricane Katrina"
